Outputs and logs
What Portal saves when a job ends, how to download it, and how long outputs and logs are kept.
Warnings and limits
- A job's output is kept 7 days after it is saved, then deleted. A download after that answers "the saved workspace expired".
- Logs are kept 30 days from when each part was written.
- Portal keeps the first 256 MiB of a job's log; past that, one line says the rest was not copied.
- No output is saved when you stop a suspended job, when a suspended job's checkpoint expires, or when the job's machine was lost.
- Outputs are kept in Portal's storage without the per-job encryption checkpoints get. Keep files you would not upload out of the working directory.
portal pullworks only once a job has ended.
What the output is
When a job ends, Portal saves its working directory as it is at that moment: the uploaded project, plus everything your script wrote there. It is one compressed archive (.tar.zst). Left out, as on upload: .git, virtual environments, files that may hold credentials, and links that point outside the directory.
It is saved when the script finishes or fails, and when you stop a running job (the script gets up to 15 s to exit first). Portal sets no size limit on it; large outputs upload in parts.
Download it
portal pull JOB
portal pull JOB ./resultsWithout a directory, the output is unpacked into a directory named after the job. portal pull is refused while the job is still running or suspended. The console's run page has a Download button that does the same; its link is valid for 1 hour.
Write results you want to keep inside the working directory. Files written elsewhere on the machine (/tmp, your home directory on the machine) are not saved.
Logs
portal logs JOB --tail 100
portal logs JOB --followPortal copies the job's output into its log as it runs, up to the first 256 MiB. A log is read 256 KiB at a time. Each part of a log is kept 30 days from when it was written; after that, reading it answers "log expired". Keeping logs past 30 days is on the Coming soon page.
